88. Are you embracing neurodiversity?
Mar 17, 2025
I was recently asked in an interview what mindset is needed for success. My response was that it’s not just mindset that’s important its mouthset and heartset.
A growth or positive mindset is important to achieve, but having a positive mouthset towards yourself and others opens opportunities because people are attracted to to positivity. It’s like a natural glow and people are drawn to your aura. To maintain that high level vibration positive mindset and mouthset are vital.
A positive heartset is leading with a giving attitude rather than getting. What can you give to others, how can you help them and add value? Rather than how much can you get from someone or can you make the sale. Yes to give you must also be open to receiving because they are the ying and yang of energy but with the focus on being giving and helping others the reciprocity comes. If you always focus on what you can get, the energy shifts and the opportunities aren’t as abundant.
We are all neurodiverse meaning we are all wired differently which means everyone thinks, behaves and functions differently. There are professional ‘norms’ we are recommended to adhere to with expectations and standards. With our own ‘norms’ misunderstandings can arise.
“One in seven people are neurodivergent”
Being aware of neuro-biases is important in maintaining an inclusive work environment and also customer relations. Over the past year I have been working more in the Middle East and while I was raised that looking people in the eye is an example of confidence, in other cultures it is deemed disrespectful. These differences in communication styles including body language, tone of voice and greetings is important in collaborations and connections. Some cultures will only shake hands with the right hand deeming the left hand dirty, resulting in a disrespectful gesture which can unintentionally insult or result in miscommunication.
To help prevent a social interaction bias, focus on listening and asking questions to learn about others rather than being heard. This will help to acknowledge different social preferences without being disrespectful or uninterested.
Looking at team members and recognizing their skill sets it’s essential to appreciate that cognitive and executive functioning vary greatly. Some team members will excel in certain areas like spreadsheets, facts and figures whilst others will be more visionary and artistic. Physhometric testing has been an asset to our team because it highlights talent so that we can empower each team member to excel and encourage their strengths. By valuing individuality this fosters innovation and productivity.
